Durable welding blankets for a range of applications
When sparks fly, make sure you have the right protection. Steamline heat proof blankets provide the perfect barrier to ensure personnel and surrounding equipment are safe when welding and grinding.
Our quality blankets are an easy and affordable way to prevent wayward sparks and molten metal from causing damage. Built to the highest standards, they are suited to a broad suite of industries, including shipbuilding, construction, automotive parts, oil plants, flammable chemicals and more. If you’re welding and grinding, or simply need a high quality, heat proof blanket, we have a product to suit.
What are heat proof blankets made from?
One upon a time, welding blankets were made from an asbestos blend; for obvious reasons, this is not the case today! Our range of Australian made welding blankets are constructed from a continuous filament fibre glass cloth, which has been treated with either a caramelised coating or vermiculite. The standard caramelised fiberglass finish is four zero rated and can withstand temperatures of up to 600°C, while blankets treated with vermiculite can resist molten ash to 1000°C. Our range of blankets all have finished edges to eliminate fraying, ensuring they withstand even the toughest daily use.
So, what exactly is vermiculite? Simply put, it’s a hydrous phyllosilicate mineral that can be found in a number of countries, including the United States, Russia, South Africa, China and Brazil. Non-toxic, it can be used in its fibrous form (not unlike fiberglass) or it can be moulded or used in liquid form. In the case of fire blankets and heat proof welding blankets, it is applied as a coating.
If you are unsure which type of blanket is best suited to your purpose, don’t hesitate to ask. The Steamline team is more than happy to discuss your needs and recommend a product that is best suited.
Affordable and easy to use, heat proof blankets provide a host of benefits. They protect the floor from molten metal and sparks produced by welding or grinding, and also prevent surrounding equipment from damage. In addition, having welding blankets in the workplace are a great safety tool. Essentially a thicker and heavier fire blanket, they can help to provide protection for personnel in situations where high temperatures are involved.
